Digital advertising and entertainment with Schindler.

The Swiss company Schindler AG has opened up a new field of business with Digital Signage solutions in their elevators. These solutions use the increased attention and dwell time in the cabin to enable targeted communication.

The Challenge

The dwell time and the possible attention is generally higher in an elevator cabin as compared to public spaces. In addition, the building and destination are known, so the environment enables targeted communication.

This prompted Schindler, as one of the major players in the global market, to develop digital touchpoints for integration inside and outside their elevators. Schindler was looking for an innovative, open, integration-capable software system that could be easily integrated to APIs and various other interfaces as well as SSP, ERP and DAM systems.

The Solution

Together with the Product team at Schindler Group, specialists from Grassfish designed and implemented a customer experience to promote digital communication inside and outside the elevator. The SoC-based JavaScript player solution was developed for the mass products, while a more powerful Linux-based media player was developed for the niche products, both of which were supported by a custom version of Grassfish IXM, and this laid the base for Schindler to transform the elevator journey into a digital experience.
